Harrington & Richardson’s affordable Pardner Pump Protector works well with slugs or buckshot and will easily take care of threats.

The Protector will accept up to 3-inch shells. Note that the loading port does not feature a “Flexi-Tab” like that found on an 870.

The Protector is equipped with an 18.5-inch barrel and a front brass bead sight, which works well with regular practice.

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

With classic styling that looks right at home with a law enforcement uniform, the Ithaca M37 is capable of providing swift and effective fight-stopping firepower.

The Ithaca 37 Defense features fine CNC machining, with a pushbutton safety at the rear of the triggerguard and slide release tab at the front.

One port does it all on the M37-loading, unloading and ejection. Bottom ejection keeps shells from interfering with self and others during firing, and reduces entry points for dirt by half over competing designs.

The 350 features bottom feed and ejection. This feature makes the 350 ambidextrous, with ejected shotshell hulls dropping at shooters’ feet rather than in their face.

The Stevens 350 comes with a traditionally shaped synthetic buttstock with a ¾”-thick recoil pad that helps mitigate perceived recoil.

LightField is producing a nifty range of 12 gauge, 20 gauge and .410 shotgun blanks called the Zombie Blaster. They do not contain a projectile and are simply designed to make as much noise and as big a flash as possible.

Zombie Blaster in action.

These rounds are just for fun, but the company does manufacture a law enforcement equivalent called the Nova Distraction Round which they promote as a cheaper alternative to Flash Bangs.

ATI Talon Shotgun Gear

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Enhancements that will turn your scattergun in a CQB tactical powerhouse!

ATI’s Talon stock and forend system was easy to install, was very solid, and the Scorpion buttpad made shooting comfortable. The six-position stock allows the shooter to quickly and easily adjust the gun to allow for the most comfort and accuracy.

The carbine is slowly supplanting the shotgun in many departments these days. It is prevalent enough that in some cases new officers have never even seen a tactical shotgun, let alone used one. With it slowly fading from the police world, it is easy to forget how versatile and powerful this venerable workhorse is—especially the pump shotgun.

Although semi-automatic shotguns are taking over the competition world, and in many instances the tactical environment, the pump shotgun is still the favorite of many. The biggest reason, of course, is its complete reliability with all types of ammunition. No need to change buffers, pistons or anything else. It will run the lightest gas or riot load or the heaviest magnum. It will run wet, dirty, muddy and in any environment. Given the correct ammunition, a pump shotgun will do just about any job a police officer is called upon to do with great effectiveness.

With the exception of long ranges and some limited hard target penetration, it will even do most anything a rifle will do. It just takes some practice and a bit more effort to control recoil. And the recoil has been trimmed down considerably with the latest in low-recoil rounds. It may not be the most popular weapon these days, but the pump shotgun remains one of the most effective, and just as important, it’s affordable.

Using the Triton Mounting System—built from anodized aluminum—one can change between a buttstock and a pistol grip simply and quickly.

ETA Devastator 12 Ga

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Elite Tactical Advantage’s highly capable and revolutionary tactical shotgun!

The ETA Devastator is truly revolutionary for the 11-87 design, incorporating a folding stock and radical rail system to this popular platform. Seen here equipped with a Burris FastFire II Red Dot and Insight Tech-Gear M6X Laser/Light.

Having long been a fan of the shotgun platform, I’ve taken the opportunity to test a variety of scatterguns throughout my career. Starting life as a dyed-in-the-wool pump shotgun guy, the move to semi-automatics was made in earnest about 10 years ago. As they became truly reliable, all the downsides just seemed to disappear. Clearly there are some operators out there that are as “fast as the auto” with their pump gun, but not me.

The ability to have it cycle as fast as the trigger is pressed can be advantageous on an entry or at close range. With the correct ammunition they also seem to add some credence to the pseudo-science of the “one shot stops.” All of the discussions as to the terminal ballistic performance of rifles, pistols and submachineguns just make most shotgun guys chuckle. The number of cases where the suspect was double-tapped with buckshot at close range and failed to stop are just about non-existent. With the advances in ammunition it only gets better. Buckshot patterns that are under 5 inches at 25 yards are common, so the need to change ammunition is reasonably limited. With all the rifles that go through these hands, the semi-auto 12 gauge is still my go-to-gun. A short-barreled semi-auto with a small red dot, pistol grip, and side saddle is within reach to this day.

The folding stock allows operators to bring serious firepower for covert assignments as well as fighting from a patrol vehicle.

One of the first short barreled semi-auto shotguns deployed for entry on our LE team was an 11-87 made by Scattergun Technologies. It was one of the last ones made prior to the sale of the company to Wilson Combat. Once it was tuned up to use the ammunition we used most, it ran fine, as long as we used that ammunition. Running low-brass practice ammunition could be a bit of a problem as compared to the duty ammunition. Eventually, we benched them and followed the popular move to submachineguns.

M26 MASS shotgun Issued to members of 101st Airborne Infantry Division

The 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (a.k.a. 2nd BCT/101st Airborne Infantry Division) is the first unit to field the M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System. According to a story on ClarksvilleOnline.com, Strike Brigade’s engineers and military police with H&H were trained up over three days by members of Picatinny Arsenal’s PM Soldier Weapons after a ceremony held Feb. 7, 2012, at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

The MASS is designed to aid in faster transitions from the shotgun to the rifle during breaching operations, but has other applications including less-than-lethal rounds. It mounts beneath the barrel of an M4 and can be attached to a stock and used as a standalone shotgun. It is a 12-gauge system and has a five round magazine.

R&R Target Saiga Tactical 12GA

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

R&R Targets has taken the rugged and reliable Saiga-12 shotgun and redesigned it with more user-friendly controls, making it more shootable and far easier to run.

R&R Targets has taken the rugged and reliable Saiga-12 shotgun and redesigned it with more user-friendly controls, making it more shootable and far easier to run.

Removing the R&R Targets Saiga shotgun from its box inside, I felt a little like the Crocodile Dundee movie character who when drawing his bowie knife against some miscreant armed with a switchblade exclaimed, “Now, that’s a knife!” My coworkers cast their shocked glances in my direction and I believe I heard one exclaim, “You got a flamethrower?” Not really but in a manner of speaking, I guess I did.

The Saiga-12 shotgun is a Russian made, 12 gauge, magazine fed, gas/piston operating, semi-auto shotgun. Based on the ubiquitous Kalashnikov design the shotgun is manufactured in Russia at the Izhmash factory. It is a solid piece of weaponry, as you would expect from the designers of the AK. The problem is that as it comes from the factory, the Saiga has some design characteristics that are less than ideal due to importation restrictions placed on the design. It comes with a trigger group placement that is rearward of the standard AK, a standard stock, no choke and a limited sight radius. The appeal of the shotgun is that it is box fed with 10-, 12- and even 20-round drum magazines available. Although the Saiga shotgun has developed quite a following with tactical shotgun shooters the first thing most owners do is seriously modify the shotgun. This involves time with a gunsmith and parts replacement. The end result is that you may get a better designed semi-auto shotgun but still with some design issues, i.e. charging handle and safety on the right side of the receiver that are less than ideal. What if you wanted to incorporate the best of the AK and AR into your Saiga? Could it be done?

The barrel of R&R Targets shotgun displays the saw teeth at the end of the full-length handguard, allowing the gun to be used in a door-breaching role.

Robert Wright and the fine folks at R&R Targets have done just that. Taking the solid design of the Kalashnikov they modify, refinish and insert new parts to make their Saiga a more solid shooter that does not require a separate manual of arms than the AR with which many of you are intimately familiar.

The 12-round mags allow plenty of loads plus a diversity of ammunition to be carried by the operator that are only a mag change away.

R&R Targets supplied one of their Tactical Packages for testing and evaluation. According to Robert Wright no part is left alone. A partial list of the work done includes: Weld fill holes in the receiver and mill slots for new safety, magazine release and stock adapter; ream the forcing cone for more uniform shot patterns and less felt recoil; cut and thread barrel to accept Remington chokes; polish and smooth action; install R&R Targets proprietary aluminum parts including aluminum triggerguard, magazine well, magazine release, safety, grip adapter, and vented handguard; and install new adjustable stock, grip, choke, trigger (with trigger job). R&R then does a ceramic coating of the barrel and frame. The result is an aesthetically pleasing Saiga with an ambidextrous safety, standard AR magazine release, and left side placed charging handle that shoots very well. The R&R rework is a very intimidating design with the full-length vented handguard that incorporates a saw-tooth design on the business end for possible use as a breaching shotgun. From the muzzle end this makes the barrel look enormous and certainly intimidating. The standard Saiga-12 is big and heavy, but the R&R design reduces overall weight by replacing steel with CNC machined aluminum.

Remington Versa Max Tactical 12 GA

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Revolutionary scattergun packed with fight-stopping power!

The Versa Max Tactical from Remington, shown equipped with an EOTech HWS optic, is designed to fire a wide range of shotshell loadings without a hitch.

In July, I traveled to Remington’s research and development facility in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to tour the facility and try out the new Versa Max Tactical shotgun. I had heard reports about the Versa Max, but I hadn’t handled one until a few weeks ago. When the daylong event was over, my assessment was that its new scattergun has the potential to overtake the competition tactical shotgun market. In addition, the Versa Max Tactical promises to be a top-of-the-line law enforcement weapon.

The Versa Max Tactical features a loading port on the underside of the receiver, allowing access to the tubular magazine.

A handful of gun writers toured the facility and met Scott Franz, the director of research and technology, and Michael Keeney, the director of firearms development for Big Green. At one point, we watched the obligatory PowerPoint presentation that would make any engineer giddy with excitement. But I’m not an engineer.

A large bolt handle and magazine release button make putting the gun in battery a snap with heavy gloves.

When they brought out the tactical version of the Versa Max and passed it around, and then showed us a disassembled Versa Max, they had the full attention of this hands-on guy. As soon as the gun was broken down, I recognized that it shared some significant design elements with the Benelli M4—but on steroids. The engineers stressed that the design is capable of firing shells from the most powerful 3½-inch loads to the lightest 2¾-inch loads. I was quick to ask Franz about this regarding the Versa Max. “From a technical standpoint, we look at what our competitors do. The innovation is the gas system, and it’s 100 percent American-made,” Franz said with a grin.

The Versa Max shotgun is designed to fire a wide range of shells, from 2 3/4″ to 3” to 3 1/2″ lengths, interchangeably and without malfunctions.

Laso’s Power-packed 870

Largest Sheriff’s agency in the world upgrades to customized Remington pumps!

Even in full recoil, the recoil-reducing stock and the Federal Tactical load keep the muzzle on target. Here the author has utilized the recoil to assist in cycling the slide. Jeff Edmonds Photos

Serving an area greater than 12,308 square kilometers, with everything from gangster-infested rat holes south of downtown to celebrity-infested Malibu in the west, the 8,500 Deputies of the LASO know what it takes to get the job done no matter where it may take them. A proud organization that traces its roots back to the wild west of 1850s California, the LASO revels in its old school, hard-nosed mystique. It is not a place where change comes easy, but sometimes change is inevitable. By the turn of the century it became abundantly clear that the department’s Ithaca 37/87s needed to be replaced. As Ithaca was in and out of different ownership, parts were a problem and internal scavenging could only go so far. An influx of more than 600 guns (a gift from the LAPD, who had transitioned to the 870) helped delay the inevitable, but the writing was on the wall. By late 2007, the decision was made. LASO would go to the Remington. With any large department in any large county, the competition is fierce for contracts, especially a department that is surrounded by dozens of local municipalities that base their equipment selection on what the big kid on the block does. This time was no different. Several companies submitted T&E guns, but in the end, the modularity, ease of maintenance, ease of use, upgradeability and ruggedness won out and the 870 was selected above the other entries.

Pistol grips can make it difficult to access the 870 safety. It’s a training issue, not an equipment issue. Jeff Edmonds Photos

Because of the variety of missions that the LASO handles, it was recognized that multiple platforms would be needed for the department. The numbers in the LASO final purchase broke down to 3,000 units for patrol, 900 less-lethal units, and 300 special units set aside for the motor officers. For patrol, it was decided that the 870 would need some enhancements in order to make it more mission capable. The first thing was that the weapons for patrol would all need to be equipped with dedicated lights. LASO went with a dedicated SureFire unit. The addition of a weapon-mounted light vastly increased the deputies’ ability in the low-light environment, but it also added some logistical and training issues.

Notice how the XS Big Dot just jumps out and catches the eye. I found it to be extremely effective, especially at speed. Jeff Edmonds Photo

Weatherby SA-459 TR 12 Ga.

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Semi-auto tactical scattergun ready for LE patrol duty!

Introduced in 2011, the Weatherby SA-459 TR semi-automatic shotgun was designed for defensive and LE applications, plus comes at a very affordable price. Shown here with the Blackhawk Night-Ops Xiphos NT.

For many years, when the name Weather-by was mentioned in the context of firearms, the image that came to mind was a custom bolt-action rifle, its stock having a diamond-shaped inlay, and chambered for a proprietary Magnum cartridge. Weatherby and big game hunting—especially dangerous game—were almost synonymous. Today, things have changed somewhat, as you can still get the Mark V rifle with an action that has been legendary since 1958, plus there’s the newer Vanguard rifle series, and an even newer selection of semi-automatic and slide-action shotguns, all in sporting or Threat Response (TR) variations. Of course, you can still count on Weatherby quality and reliability, even if the danger comes from a two-legged instead of a four-legged source.

Mounted atop the Weatherby’s receiver is a 1913 Picatinny rail and attached to it is a fully adjustable “ghost ring” peep sight.

New for 2011 under the Threat Response line is the Weatherby SA-459 TR, a semi-automatic shotgun available in 12 or 20 gauge with a 3-inch chamber. As stated in the title, this shotgun was configured especially for defensive use. It’s even named after the California Penal Code section for burglary: 459. It was designed as an affordable yet formidable and dependable source of protection. Being a longtime practitioner of law enforcement, I can certainly see where it would have applications for the uniformed officer or plainclothes investigator. Its relatively compact overall length of 39 inches with an 18.5-inch barrel and 13.5-inch length of pull makes the SA-459 TR easier to handle within the confines of a vehicle and enhances its effectiveness in up-close, threat-response situations.

The right side of the receiver shows the location of the ejection port and the generous-sized operating handle of the Weatherby SA-459 TR.

The Weatherby SA-459 TR has many of the features that have become popular in today’s “black gun” and tactical markets. From the muzzle to the buttstock pad, it has a matte black, non-reflective finish. The short, defensive-length barrel is chrome-lined for easier maintenance and durability. The muzzle of the SA-459 TR has a screw-on muzzle brake with two rows of round ports on its circumference. Up front is a red fiber-optic sight mounted in a skeletonized steel housing with protective wings to ward off damage.

The Weatherby SA-459 TR has a removable muzzle brake and a cylinder bore choke. An optional TR Accessory Rail can be attached, too.

Winchester SXP Defender 12 Gauge

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Economical and durable fighting scattergun ready for patrol duty!

The new SXP Defender 12 gauge from Winchester provides officers an extremely capable scattergun at a reasonable price. The sample shown was upgraded by the author with an ammo pouch, sling and SureFire WeaponLight forend.

I HAVE A GREAT RESPECT for the shotgun in law enforcement and military usage. Hostile suspects have been known to sneer at handguns. After all, no small number of them have been shot by one before — either by their brethren or by law enforcement officers—and are still around. The sight of a 12 gauge, cylinder bore muzzle, and its 5-gallon bucket-size opening swinging in their direction can be an immediate mood changer for even the most hardened offender. And it’s a pretty good bet the tough guy has not survived a bout with eight or nine 00 buck pellets!

Winchester has a wing gun reborn into a tactical shotgun—the SXP Defender. The Super-X Pump (SXP) Defender is a direct descendant of Winchester’s renowned Super-X Pump Black Shadow Field. Known for a fantastic pump action—fast and slick—the Black Shadow is an excellent example of what the modern bird gun should be.

To help keep weight down, the SXP’s receiver is manufactured from a lightweight alloy and is anodized black.

In a move reminiscent of their 1897, Winchester decided the SXP would be a good basis for a more tactically oriented smoothbore. Off came everything dedicated to bird hunting, and on went just the right stuff to put the Winchester SXP Defender into the tactical arena.

Beretta TX4 Storm 12Ga

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Loud as thunder, strikes like lightning — brings a heavy rain of lead on target!

The Tx4 Storm is a 3” chambered, gas-operated 12 gauge shotgun that combines light weight with light and manageable recoil.

For patrol duty, the old smoothbore is still one hell of an effective weapon. Since the infamous North Hollywood Bank of America shootout in 1997, the patrol carbine has gained popularity—and rightly so, considering the multiplicity of functions the platform is capable of dealing with. With the rise of the patrol carbine, the 12 gauge blunderbuss found itself struggling with administrators who either believed one long gun was sufficient/cost-effective, or who did not understand the complementary nature of both systems.

The rear sight is an LPA ghost ring assembly adjustable for windage and elevation, and features sturdy protective wings.

If you respond to an alarm to find a building clearing scenario, engagement distances within its rooms will most likely be less than 30 feet—that’s 30 feet in little to almost no light. Facing an opponent under those conditions with a weapon that requires less precision than the patrol carbine actually gives the officer an advantage. A solid mass of 12 gauge pellets—essentially in the pre-spread stage—still has considerably more diameter than a .22 caliber bullet, allowing for some leniency when it comes to aiming. Add to that the minimal bore/sight offset of most shotguns at 0 to 30 feet, versus that of a typical AR-style carbine, which has about 2.5 inches, and the smoothbore looks pretty good. I won’t repeat the ammunition versatility debate here, but that is also an important factor. Shotguns are still around for a lot of good reasons.

The chromed rotating bolt head locks directly in to the chrome-lined barrel of the shotgun, offering maximum corrosion resistance.

Beretta’s name is synonymous with solid firearms, particularly shotguns. Not satisfied to sit on their laurels, Beretta decided to introduce a new family of weapons in the Storm series, beginning in 2003 with the Cx4 Storm Carbine. The Cx4 was followed by the Px4 Storm Pistol—and finally, in 2010, the Tx4 Storm Semi-automatic Shotgun.

All Storm offerings make good use of polymers for durability and weight reduction. They share another trait: all have distinctive styling—sleek and racy, while also designed for maximum simplicity.

Tac Shotgun Customized

Vang Comp porting turns a scattergun into a precision fighting powerhouse!

Remington’s ultimate LE 870P MAX modified to the lighter camo’d Speedfeed configuration.

One of the most pervasive myths about the so-called “fighting” shotgun is that a wider shot pattern is a better shot pattern. The cop who uses one professionally knows better, or certainly should. As a realistic general standard in an urban setting, if you can’t count on placing your entire shot on one single target, you probably shouldn’t be using the shotgun at all.

Remington 870P MAX

After working with pumps and various semi-auto designs over the years, the tried and true Remington 870 platform still does it for me. Rugged, reliable and simple, they just keep on going. Remington’s top-of-the-LE-line 870P MAX is the best 870 you can buy in factory form. With an 18-inch IC (Improved Cylinder) fixed choke, sturdy Speedfeed black synthetic full-length pistolgrip stock, two-shot factory magazine extension, SureFire forend, Parkerized finish, Wilson Combat ghost ring rear sight and very visible XS bead front sight, the 870P MAX is the company’s Cadillac of defensive 12 gauge pump hardware. It gets more attention to detail than the less expensive Express models and retains the alloy trigger group, forged extractor and heavier action springs of the older guns.

Vang Comp added 62 ports on the barrel to reduce perceived recoil and muzzle rise.

Genuine sights are critical for maximizing the utility of a shotgun. They allow accurate shot placement with slugs, extending the working range of a shotgun out to 100 yards with compatible ammunition. They can also help in maintaining elevation relative to the point of aim with buckshot as distances increase, and any time you reduce the guesswork involved, you improve efficiency. With two more rounds on board, a decent recoil pad and an integrated light system with no dangling wires to snag on anything, the 870P MAX is one of the best on the market. Just add a sling and batteries and hit the street.

Irish Rangers, Czech 601st and French spec ops reach for the lightning-fast, dual-action 12 gauge!

Benelli’s M3T shotguns issued to special ops troops are distinguished by their folding stocks. With the stock folded up and locked into the rear notch sight, the gun is a true compact CQB powerhouse.

It’s easy to get the M3T on target quickly with the front sight, and its smooth action makes follow-up shots extremely fast.

Benellis tend to run lighter and faster, but recoil isn’t excessive. To chamber a round in semi-auto, simply pull the bolt back and release.

The M3T quickly converts between pump and semi modes by operating the selection lever in front of the forearm.

RAAC is importing the Akdal MKA 1919 12 gauge shotgun from Turkey. The shotgun closely resembles the AR-15, only a lot larger.

Because the BATFE only allow "sporting" shotguns to be imported, it is imported without any tacti-cool features. The lower receiver is polymer with the stock and pistol grip being part of the mould, much like the Cav Arms polymer AR-15 lower receivers.

Mossberg Tactical 464 SPX Lever Action

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Mossberg has introduced a range of Mossberg 464 lever action rifles pimped out with picatinny rails, six position adjustable stock (including adjustable comb height), 3-dot fiber optic sights and flash suppressor.

While they look weird, and are more than a little "tacti-cool", they are practical. For both hunting and self-defense being able to mount accessories, such as lasers or flashlights, makes perfect sense. The adjustable stock works as well on a lever action as a semi-automatic.

The rifles will be avalible in .22 LR (18" barrel, 13+1 capacity) and .30-30 (16" barrel, 5+1 capacity). There is also a "ZMB" model.
