Lt. Michael Murphy, US Navy SEAL

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

There is an ongoing project to fund a documentary about Lt. Murphy. Called "MURPH: The Extraordinary Life of LT Michael Murphy, United States Navy SEAL" the project is now at Indiegogo.com awaiting funding from backers, the amount of US$75,000. But so far, the amount raised is US$8,740 as of this writing. While the initial stages of the documentary is being funded internally, when the main production up to post-production and distribution commence, their costs will go up and thus, they are hoping that those who appreciate the sacrifice that Lt. Murphy made is worth this documentary to provide the funds they need.

U.S. Military Wants To Secure Soldiers' Smartphones

With smartphones being the fastest growing electronic products nowadays, outnumbering "dumb" phones, these are also powerful computers with the ability to do most of the ordinary day-to-day computing needs of consumers. This means that they also outnumber PCs and laptops. This being said, they are ripe targets for malware, viruses, trojans, and thieves. Smartphones are getting to be more important than wallets since they can carry more information than the latter, and information in these are much more valuable than the money and identification inside your wallet.

Army bans non-USGI magazines

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Despite the success of the PMAG, Army officials from the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command issued a “safety of use message” in April that placed it, and all other polymer magazines, on an unauthorized list.

The message did not single out PMAGs, but instead authorizes only the use of Army-issued aluminum magazines. The message offers little explanation for the new policy except to state that “Units are only authorized to use the Army-authorized magazines listed in the technical manuals.” Nor does it say what Army units should now do with the millions of dollars’ worth of PMAGs they’ve purchased over the years.

Long excluded from combat positions, women are proving themselves as Air Force sharpshooters.

Long before al-Qaida terrorists struck on September 11, 2001, the U.S. Air Force had begun to teach an elite group of airmen how to deal with terrorist threats at installations in this country and abroad. But few people at the Pentagon knew about the training.

The program began operating “under the radar” in 1995 as an Air National Guard counter-sniper course taught by the U.S. Army at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Army Buying M4s

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Army buying M4 Carbines from Remington, Colt Still Earning Royalties For M16 Design.

Mr. Curtis over at Gear Scout broke the news that Remington will be manufacturing M4 Carbines for the US Army.

According to the Department of the Army’s Chief of Legislative Liaison, the Army today executed a delivery order on an existing contract to buy 24,000 M4/M4A1s worth $16,163,252.07. The order comes as line 001 on an IDIQ contract for up to 120,000 carbines worth $83,924,089.00, though U.S. Army Contracting Command lists the “Max Potential Contract Value $180,000,000.00.” The rifles will be made at Remington’s factory in Ilion, N.Y., from the Colt technical data package and, by my math, will cost about $673 a copy. That’s a hell of a group buy price.

This comes as no surprise. In 2009 the US Army took control of the M4 TDP (Technical Data Package), allowing the Army to second source production. The DoD likes to spread production around in order to maintain a "manufacturing and industrial base".
Colt will still receive royalties from the DoD for any guns derived from the M16 until 2050! I doubt anybody at the time thought the M16 would still be in service today, nearly 50 years later (the previous service rifle, the M14, only lasted 11 years).

"How to Look Like You're In the Special Forces"

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Photo Source: US NAVY SEALs SDV Team-1 Operation Redwing from Defense Industry Daily

1. First, go buy the biggest watch you can find. A foreign special services officer asked me once whether we recruited guys based on the size of their watches or whether we bought everyone a big watch as a reward after training.

2. Cut the sleeves off your shirt. It’s hot in the Middle East, and guys would cut the sleeves off their operational uniforms. It makes sense in certain situations, but I had to tell my team, “Look, I know it’s hot, but I need you to meet safety parameters. You’re gonna get scratched.”

3. Make it your boss’s job to tell you to get a haircut and a shave.

4. Wear sunglasses. Everywhere. I’ll tell my team, “Hey, we’re inside. We can take off our sunglasses.” But they don’t.

5. Keep quiet. The baddest guys I know are also the quietest. The guy who’s talking about doing badass stuff? He’s probably not the biggest badass in the room. It’s a little like that guy on the football team who wears his letterman jacket all the time.

6. Never say “no.” Your first reaction has to be, “Yes, I can do that,” and then you figure out how. If the president asked me to go to the moon tomorrow, I’d say yes. Then I’d say, “I’ll need some training. And someone who can fly a rocket.” — As told to Brendan Greeley

Defence Force Diggers take their small arms training to the peak of potency!

Image: (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Lock) (Released)

I was first acquainted with the Australian military’s small arms program through the U.S. Army Reserve Shooting Team. Having competed with their shooters at NATO-sponsored events, I found them to be quite skilled. That’s no surprise—all the major member states of the Commonwealth have first-class militaries. In fact, the procedures and courses of fire that comprise NATO combat competition were first invented in the Commonwealth and these soldier-shooters are the ones to beat. During a visit to Victoria, I had a chance to visit three Australian military facilities.

Australian-issued F89 machine guns (FN Minimi or M249) wear the same optic as the F88. ADF troops use this as an automatic rifle like U.S. forces, but some consider the Aussies’ training approach to be a bit more rigorous.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) consists of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The ADF has a strength of almost 60,000 full-time active-duty personnel, 22,000 active reserves and 22,000 standby reserves. While small by U.S. and Asian standards, the ADF is technologically sophisticated and, man-for-man, rivals the best militaries around the world in terms of equipment and training. The ADF is supported by a significant budget and the ability to deploy worldwide.

The ADF recognizes up to a dozen official qualification courses for each weapon. These LF (Live Fire) courses for rifle, automatic rifle and pistol are chosen based on the individual soldier’s unit of assignment.

Australia’s military program began in January 1901 upon becoming an independent nation. In 1911, the Royal Australian Navy was formed, and the Royal Australian Air Force was established in 1921. Initially, the services reported to separate ministers. A common chain of command was realized after Vietnam with the creation of Chief of the Defence Force Staff and official formation the Australian Defence Force in 1976.

As with other Commonwealth militaries, the ADF still maintains good gunnery skills for MGs. Gun teams learn gunnery from the bipod and tripod for sustained fire.

Norwegian Kommandos

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Special operations units with tenacity rivaling that of their Viking ancestors!

This Kommando secures an LZ with his C8 carbine, featuring an Aimpont optical sight.

During the Cold War, Norway was the northern flank of NATO, vulnerable to an invasion by the Soviet Union. If the Soviets came south, Norwegian troops, especially the special forces troops, would have attempted to delay the advance until NATO reinforcements in the persons of British Royal Marine Commandos, Dutch Marines, and U.S. Marines arrived. With the end of the Cold War, Norwegian special ops troops retained varied missions including countering terrorism. Currently, Norwegian special operations capability rests with four units.

Norwegian Kommandos come ashore ready for action, sporting HK G36 rifles and an AG36 grenade launcher in winter camo paint.

The Haerens Jegerkommando, generally known as the HJK, in one form or another has been in existence since 1962. In addition to having certain troops assigned to units within the HJK, it also serves as the Army Special Forces Command and the training cadre for other Norwegian special ops units. Based at Elverumn in southeast Norway, HJK has a headquarters unit, a parachute unit — which is assigned both airborne missions and training duties for all of the Norwegian armed forces — and a Spesialjegere (commando) unit. Within the parachute unit is a pathfinder platoon which functions as a reconnaissance unit and also trains other recon troops.

Deployed to protect the frigid fjords that make up Norway’s coastline, a Norwegian Coastal Ranger takes aim with his HK G36 as his boat speeds towards the shore.

Closely related to the HJK are the Forsvarets Spesialkommando (FSK), to the extent that Norwegian special forces are often referred to as FSK/HJK. However, FSK has a distinct counter-terrorist mission to protect Norway’s offshore oil platforms, counter hijackings, and carry out hostage rescue operations. FSK has worked closely with U.S. Delta Force and the British SAS, including missions in Afghanistan. On certain barricade or hostage incidents, the Norwegian police will call in FSK.

U.S. Marsoc Training center

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Top of the line tools and training for Marines keep the tip of the spear extra sharp!

Whether training in the California desert or fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan, the operators of MARSOC are among the best trained and equipped warriors in the fight for freedom.

“In every clime and place” is more than a line in the Marine Corps hymn; it is the mantra of a new breed of warriors. An elite force in itself — because they are Marines, and special because of their missions — the trigger pullers of Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) assure the tip of the SOCOM spear is honed and ready.

MARSOC

After September 11, 2001, the National Training Center (NTC), located thirty-plus miles north of Barstow, California, became the training ground for counter-insurgency missions. Subsequently, special operations forces came to practice the deadly art of unconventional warfare, special reconnaissance and direct action missions. MARSOC was activated on February 24, 2006 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where it is headquartered, as the Marine Corps component of the U.S. Special Operation Command (SOCOM). Though it began with a humble start, plans are for the unit to swell to 2,500 Marines, once it is fully operational. After its initial activation, members from both the 1st and 2nd Force Reconnaissance companies transferred to MARSOC, where they formed the 1st and 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalions (MSOB) located at Camp Pendleton, California, and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina respectively.

In addition to the two MSOBs, the other subordinate units based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, include: 3rd Marine Special Operation Battalion (MSB), Marine Special Operation Intelligence Battalion (MIB), Marine Special Operations Support Group (MSOSG) and the Marine Special Operations School (MSOS).

The M4A1 is designed for speed of action and light weight, while the M203 Grenade Launcher provides additional firepower to the operator.

As an active component of SOCOM, these spec op Marines conduct the following special operations force (SOF) missions: Direct Action (DA) — short-duration strikes and other small-scale offensive actions taken to seize, destroy capture, recover or inflict damage in denied areas. Special Reconnaissance (SR) — acquiring information concerning the capabilities, intentions and activities of an enemy. Foreign Internal Defense (FID) — providing training and other assistance to foreign governments and their militaries to enable the foreign government to provide for its country’s national security.

Brazilian Spec Ops

私たちのブログを訪問していただきありがとうございます。あなたがお持ちの場合DIYの要求は私達に電子メールを送信してください。

Inside look at the do-it-all Tonelero Marines of the largest Latin American country!

Tonelero Marines are trained to deal with any mission that arises, in any environment, with top weapons like the Parker Hale M85 sniper rifle, Colt M4s, and the FN Minimi.

Take a country with a total area of more than 8.5 million square kilometers—the world’s fifth largest in size—presenting a continuous Atlantic coastline of 7,490 kilometers (3.5 million square kilometers of territorial waters, the so-called “Blue Amazon”), bordering 10 different countries, and with a population of about 200 million. Its territory includes more than five different climatic subtypes, a massive Amazon forest of about 6 million square kilometers (roughly one-third of the world’s rainforest area) and home of this planet’s largest biodiversity. Natural resources range from manganese (about 8 percent of the world’s reserves) to crude oil, with about 120 sea-based oilrigs spitting out 2 billion barrels a day.

This is Brazil, Latin America’s largest nation. By any standard, adequately protecting and defending a country like this is no small task, and more so if the defense budgets are always very limited. The three branches of Brazil’s armed forces, consequently, are given a huge responsibility to carry out their constitutional obligations, each one in their respective areas of action.

Brazil’s Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais (Marine Corps) is a branch of the Brazilian Navy, and its origins date back to March 7, 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Family, fleeing Napoleon’s invading troops, landed at Rio de Janeiro, making the city the seat of the entire Portuguese Empire. Escorting the royalty to their new home were members of Portugal’s Brigada Real da Marinha (Navy Royal Brigade), and, to make a long story much shorter, that’s the historical origin of the Brazilian Marines, whose 203rd anniversary was celebrated in 2011. Within the organizational structure of the Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais a particular unit stands out, the Batalhão de Operações Especiais de Fuzileiros Navais or Marine Special Operations Battalion. Generally known as the Tonelero (a tribute to a famous 1851 battle fought by the early Brazilian marines in a war against Argentina and Uruguay), the outfit may be regarded as “the best of the best,” not only as a result of having the toughest training among their Marine counterparts but also because of the high-risk missions these operators are called to perform.

The Brazilian Marines have for long been looking at a new submachine gun to replace their old workhorses. The new Taurus SMT 9 G2, in 9×19mm, is seen as a possible choice.
