FNAC (FN Advanced Carbine)

FNH USA's entry into the Army Individual Carbine competition is the FNAC (Advanced Carbine). The most notable difference between the FN SCAR and the FNAC is that the FNAC has a non-reciprocating charging handle and that the FNAC is 0.3 lbs lighter then a similarly configured FN SCAR Mk. 16.
The barrel is 14" long and feature a M9 Bayonet compatible lug. Like the FN SCAR PDW and FN Mk. 20 SSR , the FNAC's gas block is not topped with a folding front sight, and like the FN SCAR HAMR, the upper receiver lacks the cuts-outs above the barrel.
It looks like FNH USA has merged the best features of the SCAR family into one rifle, and added a few new features of their own, to make one neat package. It will be interesting to see if FN Herstal (Belgium) adopts any of these features for the next iteration of the FN SCAR carbines.

Economical and durable fighting scattergun ready for patrol duty!
The new SXP Defender 12 gauge from Winchester provides officers an extremely capable scattergun at a reasonable price. The sample shown was upgraded by the author with an ammo pouch, sling and SureFire WeaponLight forend.
I HAVE A GREAT RESPECT for the shotgun in law enforcement and military usage. Hostile suspects have been known to sneer at handguns. After all, no small number of them have been shot by one before — either by their brethren or by law enforcement officers—and are still around. The sight of a 12 gauge, cylinder bore muzzle, and its 5-gallon bucket-size opening swinging in their direction can be an immediate mood changer for even the most hardened offender. And it’s a pretty good bet the tough guy has not survived a bout with eight or nine 00 buck pellets!
Winchester has a wing gun reborn into a tactical shotgun—the SXP Defender. The Super-X Pump (SXP) Defender is a direct descendant of Winchester’s renowned Super-X Pump Black Shadow Field. Known for a fantastic pump action—fast and slick—the Black Shadow is an excellent example of what the modern bird gun should be.
To help keep weight down, the SXP’s receiver is manufactured from a lightweight alloy and is anodized black.
In a move reminiscent of their 1897, Winchester decided the SXP would be a good basis for a more tactically oriented smoothbore. Off came everything dedicated to bird hunting, and on went just the right stuff to put the Winchester SXP Defender into the tactical arena.

HK417 by VFC Umarex

The Umarex booth at the IWA 2012 had another eagerly-awaited gun to offer, the VFC HK417 AEG. The built quality was excellent with rock-solid externals, as known from VFC’s previous Hk416.
A new feature of the HK417 is the updated version 2 gearbox, called V2.2, which now consists of three parts, a right and left half and a back part that the motor connects with. The last part made it possible to use the original H&K pistol grip design with a steeper angle. With a different back part the new V2.2 gearbox could also be used with traditional pistol grips, so other future models might incorporate it too. The second advantage of the V2.2 gearbox is that it is thinner and therefore the HK417 receiver is thinner too, in comparison to a traditional M4 or SR25 style receiver albeit still not as thin as the real one.
The other gearbox internals are still of the regular version 2 type with a long type motor. The muzzle velocity was said to be 395 fps, Japan version would be much of course
The new type H&K crane stock will not be sold separately, as H&K did not give Umarex the license to do so; apparently they fear that replica stocks could mistakenly find their way onto real firearms.
Most importantly the release date will be around April to May this year. The HK417 GBB version will follow later, but here no fixed date has been named.
